Cypherock X1 Review

Cypherock is a crypto cold wallet company based in Singapore that started in 2019.

The wallet consists of five parts: 4 cards and one X1 Vault device. The X1 Vault device is the small black device with a joystick on top. The package includes a USB cable, that is used for powering and to connect to your computer. It even includes a USB-C adapter for those who use Mac computers. Each card comes with a plastic housing for further protection. Inside the package is also a setup guide.

Cypherock wallet use no seed phrase?

The Cypherock X1 is not intended to be used with a seed phrase backup (even though you can). The main way of backing up your private key to your crypto is that the wallet splits the private key onto the 5 parts. To access your crypto you need at least 2 of the parts, and on top of that a PIN code. So even if you lose or someone steals 3 parts you can still restore your crypto with the last 2 parts. So a safe way is to store the cards in different locations. The fact that this wallet does not rely on seed phrases is one reason to why this wallet is so safe.

Best safety feature

The best security feature with the Cypherock is that the cards’ firmware are not updatable. That means that new firmware cannot be installed onto the cards themselves, and that is a good thing. That is because it keeps the wallet safe from backdoor hacking, which is a vulnerability we have seen before being compromised. Last time we saw that happen was at the end of 2023 with the Ledger wallets Connect Kit, where some users lost their crypto funds. Non-updatable firmware is a big plus from me.

Cypherock supported coins and blockchain networks

Cypherock supports 3000 native coins. They support a few different blockchain networks like Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Polygon, and Optimism, etc. So their coin support is likely enough for most people & more networks are going to be added over time. Other wallet features

Cypherock X1 supports NFT storage. The wallet also has a Wallet Connect feature which enables users to connect to Dapps if one would want that. The wallet or CySync program does not have a built-in swap feature within the wallet/program just yet.

I like that Cypherock comes with all 5 parts in the same package and that we don’t need to buy any additional stuff. The setup goes fast and usage is very beginner-friendly. The best aspect about the wallet I think is that it does not rely on physical seed phrases and that the wallet firmware is not updatable. That is what makes Cypherock one of the safest wallets in the world.
