Best Cheap Hardware Wallets 2026

A cheap hardware wallet is still a real cold wallet. The key stays on a chip you hold. The phone or computer only builds the payment.

They all use an EAL6+ chip. That is the same grade used in many passports and bank cards. What changes is the screen, the backup, and whether the wallet works better with a phone or a computer.

Tangem

Tangem is the cheap card I send most beginners to. Switzerland, shipping since 2017. You get two identical cards and the Tangem app. Tap, type a PIN, done. Default backup is the cards themselves. You can add recovery words if you want that as well.

The app is the one I find easiest to live in. Smart Gas can pay some network fees in a stablecoin, which helps people who do not keep extra ETH or BNB around. Coin coverage is wide. The cards are waterproof and come with a long warranty. I have not seen a public case where Tangem cards were emptied by a company-side hack.

Trezor Safe 3

Trezor made the first hardware wallet in 2014. Safe 3 is the cheapest fully open-source unit I have scored. The firmware is public. Other people can read it.

You get a small screen and two buttons, USB-C only. Trezor Suite on a computer is the main home. Android works. iPhone does not get the full Suite product, so skip Safe 3 if your phone is an iPhone and that is where you want to manage coins.

Backup is recovery words, plus Trezor's multi-share option. You can split the backup into several shares and decide how many are needed to restore. Coin support is the majors, not the longest list here. I still gave it the highest value score I have put on any wallet.

OneKey Classic 1S Pure

Open-source firmware and app, like Trezor, at a budget price. There is no battery. Plug in USB-C or the device stays off. After it has power it can use Bluetooth with the phone. That is useful if you plan to leave a wallet in a drawer for years.

It works on iPhone, Android, and desktop. Backup is recovery words. The OneKey app is one of the stronger cheap-wallet apps: a long network list and an earn area with a fixed-income section. OneKey has been shipping since 2020 with no public drain of customer keys.

Ellipal X Card

Most cheap cards create the wallet in a phone app. Ellipal puts a Starter in the box. That Starter has a small screen and no internet. The recovery words appear there. Then the X Card is what you tap every day.

The card does not take firmware updates. Ellipal treats that as a plus. Backup is recovery words only. You can copy the same wallet onto extra X Cards while you set it up. iPhone and Android, no desktop. The app covers a mid-size network list and has extra tiles such as prediction markets. Ellipal has shipped since 2018 without a published device hack that emptied wallets.

SafePal X1

Bluetooth to the phone, mainly mobile. Small screen and buttons, so you can read the send on the device. SafePal also describes a wipe if the body is opened.

Backup is recovery words. Coin and network coverage is the widest of this cheap group. The app adds a banking layer in some regions. The shell feels like plastic. The company is only partly open source. I have not seen reports of people losing coins because the X1 itself was remotely emptied.

CoolWallet GO

Two NFC cards from CoolBitX, a company that has been in this format since 2014. No battery. iPhone and Android only. You can treat the second card as the backup, write recovery words, or do both.

The network list is the short one in this group. It still covers what most people hold. The send screen in the app is unusually clear. Earn is decent for the price. CoolBitX has a long public record with no user-loss hack on the devices.

DCENT S

The newest cheap card in the group, from IoTrust in South Korea. NFC, mobile only. The box is two different cards. The S card signs. The R3covery card only restores, with its own PIN. During setup you can also write 24 words and keep paper plus cards.

The app covers a long network list. XRPFi and XLMFi in Discovery are the extra if you hold those coins. IoTrust has a long run on older devices with no published key extraction. The S card itself is new, so that model's history is short.

Buy Trezor Safe 3 if you want open-source firmware and a screen, and you use a computer or Android.

Buy Ellipal X Card if the seed must be created on a device that never goes online.

Buy DCENT S if you want a restore card that cannot spend, or you use the XRP apps.

Buy CoolWallet GO if you like a two-card copy set and a very readable send screen.
