DCENT Biometric Wallet Setup Tutorial

This is the full first-time setup, written the same way I walk through it on camera. Do this on a clean table. Phone nearby. Nobody filming over your shoulder when the seed words are on screen.

What you need before you start

• The sealed DCENT Biometric Wallet box
• The USB cable from the box
• A 5V charger. Plug the charger into the wall first, then plug the wallet in if the battery is dead
• Your phone, with Bluetooth on
• A pen
• 20 quiet minutes

Do not create this wallet in a café, on a live stream, or with a webcam pointed at the table.

1. The box and what should be inside

This is the retail box. Check that the seal looks untouched before you rip it open. If the tape is sliced or the box looks resealed, stop and contact the shop you bought it from.

2. Unboxing

Inside you should find:

• The biometric wallet itself
• A USB cable (USB-C on current units, Micro-USB on older ones)
• Recovery sheets for the 24 words
• A quick start leaflet

The wallet is small. About credit-card length, thicker, 36 grams. OLED on the front, buttons around the fingerprint pad, power button on the right side.

Hold the power button for 3 seconds. If nothing happens, charge it first, then try again.

Buttons on the device:

• Up and Down: move through menus, or change a number / letter
• OK: confirm
• Back: cancel or go back
• Power: right side, hold 3 seconds

3. Download the DCENT app first

You can finish device setup without the phone, but you cannot send coins without the app. Get the app on the official store before you write the seed, so you are not hunting for it with words sitting on the table.

1. Open Google Play or the App Store.
2. Search DCENT Wallet. Publisher should be IoTrust / D’CENT.
3. Install it. Do not download an APK from a random site.
4. Open the app.
5. When it asks which wallet mode you use, pick Biometric Wallet.
6. Set the 6-digit app password. That password only locks the app on your phone. It is not your hardware PIN and it is not your seed.

If you already use a DCENT S card in the same app, you can add the biometric unit later under Manage All Wallets. For a first setup, just choose Biometric Wallet and keep going.

4. Create the wallet on the device

This part happens on the hardware, not in the app.

1. Hold power for 3 seconds.
2. Pick your language with Up / Down, then press OK. English, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, or Spanish.
3. Select Create Wallet.
4. Only pick Recover Wallet if you already have 24 words from an old DCENT. Do not type a seed you generated on a website.

Create Wallet makes a new key inside the secure chip. That is what you want on a brand new unit.

5. Set the PIN

The device asks for a PIN next.

• Current firmware: 4 to 8 digits
• Very old firmware below v2.5.5: 4 digits only

Use Up and Down to set each digit, OK to confirm. After 4 digits the screen offers OK if you want to stop there, or keep going up to 8.

Enter the same PIN a second time.

This PIN is the backup if the fingerprint misses. You also need it later to add or delete fingerprints. Do not use 1234. Do not write the PIN on the same paper as the seed.

6. Register the fingerprint

The sensor sits in the middle of the navigation buttons.

1. Put one finger on the pad.
2. Lift, tilt the same finger a little, scan again.
3. Repeat until the bar hits 100%. That takes 8 good scans.
4. Scan one more time to verify.

If it keeps failing, dry your finger, try a different finger, and do not slam the pad. You can store up to 2 fingerprints. Both fingerprints can approve sends, so do not enroll your roommate "just in case."

Fingerprint is for daily unlock and signing. It does not recover the wallet. If you die or the unit is gone, the people left behind need the 24 words.

Fingerprint pad in the middle of the buttons. Scan the same finger 8 times, changing the angle each pass, until it hits 100%.

7. Write the 24-word seed

This is the only part that actually matters if the device dies.

The wallet shows the recovery words on its own screen. Write them on the paper from the box, in order, word 1 through word 24.

Rules I follow on camera and off camera:

• Write them by hand. No photo. No Notes app. No screenshot.
• Check spelling. One wrong letter and recovery fails.
• The device will ask you to confirm some of the words. Do that slowly.
• Put that paper somewhere that is not this room and not this phone.

The fingerprint cannot rebuild this wallet. The PIN cannot rebuild this wallet. Only these 24 words can. If you later set the optional 25th word in Settings > Security, that word becomes required for recovery too. Skip the 25th word on day one unless you already know you want it. It is 1 to 8 characters, and if you forget it the 24 words alone will not open that hidden wallet.

When the device says setup is complete, it is safe to look at the phone again.

Write the 24 words from the wallet screen onto the recovery sheet. Never photo this screen. Confirm the words on the device before you continue.

8. Connect Bluetooth to the app

Now pair the cold wallet to the phone.

1. Turn the wallet on.
2. Unlock it with fingerprint or PIN.
3. Open the DCENT app.
4. Go to the My Wallet tab.
5. Tap the Bluetooth icon at the top.
6. Tap Search device.
7. Pick your unit. The name looks like D’CENT-iD-XXXXX.
8. You can confirm that ID on the device under Settings > Device Info.

Notes that save people 20 minutes:

• From app v8.0.0 on Android you connect manually each session. It does not always auto-reconnect like older app versions.
• If the wallet screen is stuck on "Connecting...", press Back / Cancel on the device, then search again from the app.
• Bluetooth on the phone must be on. On iPhone, accept the pairing prompt.
• Android can also use a data-capable USB/OTG cable if Bluetooth is being annoying.

After it syncs, the app can show balances. Sending still needs the device unlocked and a confirm on the hardware.

My Wallet tab > Bluetooth icon > Search device > select D’CENT-iD-XXXXX. Unlock the hardware first or it will not show up.

9. Add your networks and coins

The device is a signer. The app is where you pick chains.

1. In the app, add an account for each coin you actually use. BTC, ETH, XRP, SOL, HBAR, whatever you hold.
2. If a token is missing, add it as a custom token with the contract address from a real explorer, not from Telegram.
3. Receive first with a tiny test amount.
4. On the first send, watch the wallet screen. The address and amount should match what the app showed. Then fingerprint or PIN to approve. That is the clear-signing step. If the screen shows something you did not tap, hit Back.

The official list is huge, 100+ networks and thousands of assets, and they keep adding more through the app and through firmware. You do not need every network. Add what you use.

Add each coin account in the DCENT app after the device is paired. Start with a tiny test receive before you move the real stack.

10. XRP features after setup

If you bought this for XRP, this is the part that is nicer than a generic hardware wallet.

In the DCENT app you can:

• Create a native XRP account and copy the address from the app
• Send and receive XRP with the device approving on its own screen
• Open the XRP / XRPL tools the app ships, including DEX / AMM style actions and XRPFi-style discovery when those tiles are available in your app version
• Keep the keys on the biometric unit the whole time

Do not approve an XRPFi or DEX sign-off you did not start yourself. Same rule as Ethereum dApps. The extra XRP buttons are in the app. The "yes" still happens on the wallet.

XRP tools live in the DCENT app. The biometric wallet still has to show the payment and take your fingerprint before anything leaves.

11. Optional extras I do after the first send works

Second fingerprint: Settings on the device > Security > Enroll Finger. PIN required. Only enroll your own second finger.

Seed Check: Settings > Seed Check. Type the 24 words back in when you have time. You want to see Match before you deposit anything serious.

25th word: Settings > Security > 25th Word. Only on chips with KSM 1.1 or higher (Device Info). This creates a brand-new set of keys. Move funds off first if the wallet already holds coins. Remember the extra word or those new accounts are gone.

Firmware: Only from the official DCENT firmware page or the in-app prompt, on your own computer, official cable. The updater will never ask for the 24 words. If a site does, close it. After April 2026, v2.4 or newer is the line you want. You cannot roll firmware backward.

MetaMask (EVM only): In the app open Discovery > MetaMask Integration. On the computer use MetaMask extension > Connect hardware wallet > QR-based. Scan the app QR with the PC camera. MetaMask Mobile cannot do this. Wallet firmware needs v2.19.7 or higher.

Quick checklist

• Box looked sealed
• App is official DCENT Wallet, mode set to Biometric
• PIN set, fingerprint enrolled to 100%
• 24 words written on paper, confirmed on the device, paper stored offline
• Bluetooth paired, device ID matches
• Test receive worked
• Test send showed the right address on the OLED before I approved it
• No photos of the seed exist on this phone

If that list is done, the wallet is set up. Everything after that is just adding coins and not rushing the approve screen.
