Tangem Staking Explained
Share
Tangem has staking built directly into the app. You do not need to connect to a third-party site or use WalletConnect to access it. Here is how it works.
How to Find the Staking Options
Open the Tangem app and tap on the coin you want to stake. If staking is available for that network, you will see an Earn or Staking option on the asset screen. Tap it and the app shows the available staking options, the current annual yield, and the lockup period if there is one. Most of the major networks that support native staking are available directly in the app, including Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, Avalanche, and others.
What Happens to Your Keys
Nothing changes about how Tangem works. Your private keys stay on the card the entire time. When you stake, the Tangem app builds the staking transaction, you enter your PIN and tap your card to approve it, and the transaction is broadcast. The card signs it. The keys never leave the secure element chip. Staking through the Tangem app is the same level of security as any other transaction you do.
Aave Integration
For DeFi yield on Ethereum and compatible chains, Tangem has Aave access built into the Discovery section of the app. You can deposit assets and earn yield on Aave's money market directly from the app without going through a separate browser or web interface. Again, your keys stay on the card when you approve the transaction.
Lockup Periods
Some networks have lockup or unbonding periods when you stake. Ethereum withdrawals are fast now, but networks like Cosmos-based chains can have 21-day unbonding periods. The Tangem app shows the terms before you stake. There is no penalty for holding staked assets, but if you stake on a network with a lockup you cannot unstake immediately, so check the terms before committing a large amount.
What It Does Not Do
The staking inside the Tangem app is native to whatever the app supports. If you want to access a specific staking protocol that is not listed in the Tangem app, you would need to connect through WalletConnect to an external dApp. That is supported as well, but the setup is different from the built-in staking flow.
If you do not have a Tangem wallet yet, see the Tangem review for the full breakdown. You can get one at tangem.com and use codes NORDIC and NYEXTRA26 stacked for up to 30% off.
