Tangem Setup: 1-Minute Tutorial
Share
Setting up the Tangem wallet takes about one minute using the standard seedless method. No seed phrase to write down. Here is exactly how it works, step by step.
Step-by-Step: Tangem Seedless Setup
Tangem works without a seed phrase by default. Instead of 24 words to write down and store safely, your physical cards act as backups for each other. Here is the full process.
1. Create the wallet
Open the Tangem app and tap "Create wallet". The app asks you to scan the card matching the number shown on screen. You can find that number on the back of the card. Hold the card against the back of your phone and it reads almost instantly.
2. Add your backup cards
The app will say there are no backup devices and ask if you want to add a card or ring. You want to add all your cards as backups right away. Tap "Add" and scan the second card. If you have a three-card set, tap "Add" again and scan the third card. Then tap "Finalize backup".
3. Set an access code
The next step is setting an access code, which is a password for the wallet. Write it down and store it somewhere safe. If you forget the access code and you are using the seedless route, you need at least two of your Tangem cards to reset it and regain access to your crypto.
4. Scan each card to complete setup
The final step is scanning each card one at a time. Hold the first card to your phone and wait until the timer hits success, then do the same with the second and third card. Once all cards are done, the seedless setup is finished.
That is the whole process. From app open to finished wallet in roughly one minute with a three-card set.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
The access code is the one thing people sometimes forget to write down. Unlike a traditional hardware wallet where you can recover with the seed phrase, the seedless Tangem approach means your cards are your recovery method. Lose the access code and have only one card? You are locked out. Keep at least two cards in separate locations and write down the access code.
Once setup is done, adding coins and using the wallet is just as straightforward. Open the app, scan a card, and you are in.
