Watch Before You Buy the Blockstream Jade Plus

Before you buy the Blockstream Jade Plus, there are a few things worth knowing. The video above covers the main points. Here is the written version.
It Is Bitcoin-Only
The Jade Plus is a Bitcoin wallet. Not a multi-coin wallet. You can use it with Bitcoin on-chain, Lightning via the Blockstream Green app, and the Liquid sidechain. If you want to hold ETH, SOL, or any altcoins on it, this is not the right device. That is not a flaw in the Jade Plus, it is the point of it. Blockstream built this for Bitcoin holders who want a serious Bitcoin self-custody setup, and it does that well. But if you need a single device for a multi-chain portfolio, look at something like the Trezor Safe 7 or the Keycard Shell for EVM.
The Blind Oracle Security Model Is Different From Every Other Wallet
Most hardware wallets store everything you need to access your funds inside a single secure element chip on the device. The Jade Plus splits the decryption key into three parts: your PIN, a secret on the device, and a secret on the Blind Oracle server. The oracle never sees your seed phrase or your PIN. It only responds with its piece of the key when the correct PIN is entered through an encrypted channel.
This makes the device much less valuable to a thief. Even with the physical device, they cannot access your funds without your PIN and the oracle. The Blind Oracle is fully open-source and self-hostable if you want to run your own. There is also a SeedQR stateless mode if you want fully independent operation without relying on the oracle at all.
The QR Workflow Is the Slowest Option
The Jade Plus can connect via USB-C, Bluetooth, or fully air-gapped QR codes. The QR workflow is excellent for security but each transaction takes around 10-15 seconds to scan back and forth. This is slower than NFC tap signing on something like Tangem or the Keycard Shell, but faster than any QR-based wallet I have used. The upgraded camera on the Jade Plus makes the QR scans noticeably smoother than older air-gapped devices. For most Bitcoin holders who are not signing dozens of transactions per day, the extra seconds are not a problem.
There Is a Learning Curve
The Jade Plus is more device-oriented than app-oriented. More of the interaction happens on the physical device using the buttons rather than in the companion app. This is fine once you know the workflow, but it is not as immediately intuitive as wallets where the phone guides you through everything. If this is your first hardware wallet, be ready for a few sessions before it feels natural. If you are already comfortable with hardware wallets, you will adapt quickly.
The Privacy Tools Are Genuinely Useful
The Blockstream Green app has built-in TOR routing and custom proxy support. This lets you hide your IP address when checking balances or broadcasting transactions. If you are running your own Bitcoin node or care about financial privacy, this is a meaningful feature that most hardware wallet companion apps do not have. Combined with the Liquid sidechain support, the Jade Plus is set up for users who want more than just basic cold storage.
Price and Discount
The standard Jade Plus is $149. Metal housing variants (Lunar Silver and Genesis Grey) are $169. Use code NORDIC for 10% off at rewards.blockstream.com/nordic. For the full review with scores and comparison to other Bitcoin wallets, see the Blockstream Jade Plus review.
